Sustainability

QMUL has an institutional responsibility to incorporate sound environmental principles and practices across all areas of activity. We also recognise the importance of promoting environmental awareness and education with our staff, students, suppliers, contractors and the local community.

The Sustainability Team is responsible for:

  • Developing an Energy and Environmental Management System that includes planning, target setting, performance monitoring and external reporting.
  • Incorporating sustainable development principles into new build and refurbishment projects creating a built environment that meets high environmental performance standards. Includes delivering initiatives that reduce energy consumption and increase energy efficiency.
  • Reducing the consumption of natural resources through practical conservation measures and the promotion of positive behaviours. Extends to areas such as biodiversity, travel, procurement, sustainable food and waste management and recycling.
  • Deepen staff, students and other stakeholders’ understanding of, and engagement in, local and global sustainability issues by providing learning, training and practical volunteering opportunities.
