Below is the A-Z list of requests that have previously been received by the Helpdesk. Click on each item to expand the section to find out more information.

Air conditioners

Broken or faulty air conditioning units should be reported to the Estates Helpdesk. If you would like to request air conditioning unit in a room, please discuss this with your Head of Department/School in the first instance. You will need to complete and submit a Planning Consent Form (PCF) as for any small project (see Starting a project). However, please note that the College has a policy of only installing new air conditioning units in areas where this is essential e.g. in server rooms.

Audio-visual equipment

All AV equipment is maintained and serviced by the Teaching Room Facilities team. Please see the Teaching Room Facilities external link symbol website for more information.

Booking rooms

The booking of teaching and meeting rooms is arranged through the Teaching Room Facilities team. Please see the Teaching Room Facilities external link symbol website for more information.

Building work

All building work is coordinated by the Projects Office as part of an ongoing capital programme. For more details please see the Current projects page of this website. If you wish to request some building work for your department or section, please see the Starting a project page

Building plans

Building and floor plans for all College buildings are available online via the Web Central facility. Please see the Space management page for further information.

Car Parking

All vehicles must be parked in a valid parking bay. Parking permits are available from Security. Please see the Security Services external link symbol webpages for more information.

Cleaning

For additional cleaning or to report a cleaning problem, please phone or email the Estates Helpdesk. Please see the Domestic Services external link symbol webpages for more information.

Contractors

External contractors are frequently used by the Estates department. All contractors are required to conform to College regulations and should carry ID at all times. If you have a question or wish to raise a concern about a particular contractor, please contact the Estates Helpdesk (extension 2580) or call Campus Security external link symbol (extension 5000)

Computers

Computer hardware is procured and maintained for departments by IT Services external link symbol. If you have any old equipment to be disposed of, please contact the IT Services helpdesk at its-helpdesk@qmul.ac.uk or extension 8888.

Data cabling

Data cables and network points are procured and maintained for departments by IT Services external link symbol.

Disposal

To arrange for the disposal or any rubbish or unwanted items, please contact the Estates Helpdesk (extension 2580). However, please note that for the removal of any old IT equipment and for such items, you should first contact the IT Services helpdesk at its-helpdesk@qmul.ac.uk or extension 8888, so that the IT asset register can be updated.

Disruptive works

To report noisy or disruptive works, please contact the Estates Helpdesk (extension 2580). However please note that departments are normally informed in advance of planned noisy works, so your School or Departmental Administrator may already have further details about the works.

Doors: handles, closers, locks etc.

For any problem with these items, please contact the Estates Helpdesk.

Electrical switches/sockets

For any problems with electrical fittings, please contact the Estates Helpdesk (extension 2580) .

Electrical testing (PAT)

The Estates Directorate is responsible for the provision of safe electrical supplies up to an including the outlet sockets. Any equipment that is plugged in is the responsibility of the School or Department concerned. Emergencies

In an emergency, please call Security on 020 7882 5000 (external) or extension 5000 (internal). The Security team will contact the emergency services if necessary.

Flooring

To report any problems with carpets, tiles or other flooring, please contact the Estates Helpdesk (extension 2580).

Grounds and Gardens

Heating

For any issues relating to heating, please contact the Estates Helpdesk (extension 2580).

Heavy items, moving

Laboratory clearance

To arrange for laboratory clearance, please contact the Estates Helpdesk (extension 2580).

Leaks

To report any sort of leak, please contact the Estates Helpdesk (extension 2580).

Lecture Theatres

To report something that needs repair or replacement, in a lecture theatre, please contact the Estates Helpdesk (extension 2580). Letting space

For information about letting space to another department or outside organisation, please see the Planning & Property section of this website.

Lifts

To report any problems with lifts, please contact the Estates Helpdesk (extension 2580).

Lights and lighting

Recycling

Collection of office waste for recycling is carried out by the Domestic Services external link symbol team. There are also a number of large pink recycling bins located around the sites, provided by the local council. The Head of Energy and Environment (see Sustainability external link symbol webpages) will also be introducing a number of recycling initiatives over the coming year.

Redecoration

If you require any painting or decorative works in your office, please contact the Estates Helpdesk (extension 2580).

Refurbishment

For small refurbishment works, please contact the Estates Helpdesk (extension 2580) in the first instance. Extensive refurbishment projects requires departments to submit a PCF form (see Starting a project).

Repairs

For any repair works needed, please contact the Estates Helpdesk (extension 2580).

Room booking

Teaching room booking is arranged through the Teaching Room Facilities team. Please see the Teaching Room Facilities external link symbol website for more information.

Scaffolding

If you have any queries relating to scaffolding, please contact the Estates Helpdesk (extension 2580).

Shelving

If you would like to arrange for additional shelving, please contact the Estates Helpdesk (extension 2580).

Signs and signage

QMUL's exterior signage is being reviewed as part of a capital project that aims to provide a clear and consistent signage across all sites. Changes to interior signs are normally carried out as part of smaller refurbishment works. If you spot a damaged or broken sign, or want to suggest a new sign, please contact the Estates Helpdesk (extension 2580).

Small works

Space usage

Teaching rooms

If need to get a wall repaired, repainted, or a picture put up, please contact the Estates Helpdesk (extension 2580).

Water leaks

Please contact the Estates Helpdesk (extension 2580) as a matter of urgency. If you spot a leak in the evening or at weekends, please contact Security on extension 5000.

Windows

To report a fault or enquire about window cleaning, please contact the Estates Helpdesk (extension 2580).
